INFORMATION
The subject matter of this particular body of work is to explore and comment on
what it means to be British/Chinese. I use food as language, combining their cultural
positions to create narrative. I have focused on the Chinese Takeaway as subject matter
as it is one of the major influences the Chinese have made on British eating and street culture.
The work is ironic yet assessable and speaks of the everyday. There is humour in the work but
also sadness and loss as the work juggles with the ideas of tradition and progress. The work is
pared down to its minimal form from which hopefully it will expand to reveal its origins and meaning.
